Desert Willow Elementary School

The school has great programs and I love the Spanish Immersion .

If we could give DWES a zero we would. We have been there for several years,yet have finally decided to remove our children at the end of the current year.The PBIS program not effective. There is no accountability for student behavior. Bullying is rampant and not appropriately dealt with. Many children are feeling unsafe.Most of the teachers are excellent, but there are several who have no business teaching. Those few teachers have inadequate knowledge of basic elementary topics and do not have the skills to effectively and appropriately teach the children. Contacting administrators at many levels does nothing to fix the ongoing problems in those teachers' classrooms including inappropriate topics, excessive dependence upon computers for teaching in and out of school, and communication between the classroom and families.

I agree with the parent that mentioned Kumon is filled with children from Desert Willow. Most recently I found out that the after school homework club can’t find teachers to work in the club and children are on their own a couple days a without help.

We love Desert Willow!! Our family has been a part of this school for over 6 years. From the moment you walk into the front office you are welcomed by Jill and Trish who are both very friendly and helpful. The Principal, Mr. Culbertson does a great job of engaging the students and answering any questions the parents might have. My children love him!Desert Willow is a Spanish Immersion school and we have had experience with teachers in both the Spanish Immersion Program and Non-Spanish Immersion teachers. We have been VERY happy with both areas. It is very important for us to not only have a good learning environment but a warm one too! I would recommend Desert Willow to any parent who is looking for a great school for their child.
