I am a previous employee of Las Brisas Elementary, and worked as a paraprofessional. It came as a shock to me within the first 3 months of working there that I felt that I had not honestly worked a single day. Every moment spent with our special needs students was a privilege, and though tiring and challenging was an experience I would not give up for the world. The staff was incredible as well, though one or two of them I may not have agreed with their effectiveness and decisions, the overwhelming majority kept me inspired to continue my education in becoming a teacher, and gave me something to aspire to. The 6th grade history teacher, though a serious looking, and intimidating man created an incredible sense of leadership and accountability in his room at all times without sacrificing a strong community, respect, or academic achievement. His neighboring science teacher did just as much of an incredible job, though being a lot less intimidating.Teachers did an amazing job working together to confront any issues they were seeing within their grade level, and constantly facilitated a wonderful sense of community. I could honestly go on and on about how great I found this school ad nauseum, but I will allow what I have of this review to speak for itself.

I cannot express my utmost disappointment with the administration of this school. They do not adequately address on campus bullying and do not take accountability when they have dropped the ball when it comes to discipline. Nothing gets "handled" here, it simply gets brushed under the rug. High ratings are a false sense of security for any parent and until you actually have an experience that is personally handled completely wrong, you will never get a taste of just how sour this school really is.

I've had one son that has graduated, another that still attends. After reading reviews I notice a trend that is true. Reference to the Oct 2013 review, I too am a father and have found that office personal posses favoritism toward moms. Although they falsely claim to be fair and equal, I assure you they're not. My kids mother doesn't live within the deer valley district, yet the office personal allowed her to alter student info to living outside the district without notifying me. When I discover and exercise legal right to correct info according to decree, the admin staff was uncooperative and insist they must inform the mother before any changes are allowed. Speaking with other father's I've heard similar difficulties, specifically with the principals secretary. Most teachers are great within the public school restrictions of required "teaching to the test" (AIMS). Although two teachers of 3rd grade are more focused on militarily practicing authority instead of actual teaching with care. When will people learn kids are more eager to learn when they are happy in the classroom? Hopefully the new principal will establish genuine gender equality for parents.
