Barnes & Noble has been a home for book lovers for decades. Now the brand has found a new way to position itself in the age of Amazon. According to the Dallas Morning News, Barnes & Noble recently opened a new restaurant concept called Barnes & Noble Kitchen at Legacy West in Plano.

The new concept combines an eatery with a spacious bookstore. The restaurant seats 178 people and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu includes fresh, locally sourced ingredients, along with craft beers and premium wines. The craft beer selection includes entries from local breweries such as Lakewood, Four Corners, and Community.

The Barnes & Noble Kitchen concept has three other locations, but the location at Legacy West is the first in Texas.

Chef Robbie Nowlin comes to Barnes & Noble Kitchen at Legacy West from previous roles as executive head chef at Boudro’s Texas Bistro and Zinc Bistro & Wine Bar in San Antonio

The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating options with full table service. The indoor facility has regular tables, bar seating, and a community worktable with accessible outlets. The outdoor area also has a bar and a patio next to a fountain.

The bookstore is about half the size of a standard store, with only about 17,000 titles and lacking a music section (a full-size Barnes & Noble store has 35,000 to 50,000 titles). The nearest one is located 1.9 miles away at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco.

The bookstore part of the store also employs new technology to improve the shopping experience. Fort Worth Business reports that mobile engagement devices will be used to provide information about products and allow customers to check out without having to go to a register.
