A big mixed-use development coming to D.C.'s Southwest Waterfront is taking shape in waves, with the first phase on track to open in October 2017 with full completion scheduled for April 2018.

At full build-out, the $2 billion, mile-long Wharf will feature waterfront residences, hotels, a concert hall, public walks, retail, and more. Hoffman-Madison Waterfront, the group encompassing the developers behind the project, just announced the list of architects and designers for The Wharf's second phase, and it's filled with high-profile architects and firms.

Names include New York's SHoP Architects, who will design two office towers; the D.C. and Dallas-based WDG Architecture, who will serve as the "architect of record" and work on condos and an apartment building that will open this year; Rafael Viñoly, who will design another condo building; and Morris Adjmi, who's working on another office building for The Wharf.

Hoffman-Madison has unrolled a series of buildings and amenities for The Wharf, including D.C.'s first office on a pier, a LEED Silver-certified rental building, a water taxi service, and two hotels.
