North Texas is known for rapid business growth, lots of construction, and a highly mobile population. One thing the area has not historically been known for is a commitment to clean energy. But Fort Worth’s popular Sundance Square is working to change that, thanks to a partnership with Green Mountain Energy.

Sundance Square, the 35-block mixed-use development in downtown Fort Worth, recently announced an extension of their nine-year relationship with Green Mountain. The energy company will provide renewable energy to the 42 buildings in Sundance Square for the next seven years.

Sustainable energy is an increasingly important issue in North Texas. New residents and corporate relocations alike are demanding environmentally responsible solutions to energy use. Sundance Square is Texas’ largest purchaser of green power in the real estate industry.

“We have partnered with Green Mountain Energy since 2008, and our relationship is an extension of our efforts to promote sustainability in downtown Fort Worth,” Johnny Campbell, president and CEO of Sundance Square, said in a press release.

“As companies seek out environmentally friendly developments for new retail and office spaces, Sundance Square is at the top of the list. We have created a business, entertainment and residential district that focuses on being a good steward of our environment, and Green Mountain Energy has been a big part of this endeavor.”

Sundance Square sets a great example for other companies and individuals in North Texas. By investing in green energy, Sundance Square will purchase approximately 453 million kilowatt-hours of energy over the next seven years. They will also educate the public and shareholders on the benefits of purchasing clean power.

The environmental commitment by Sundance Square goes beyond their purchase of green energy. Sundance Square also has a widespread recycling effort, collecting 750 tons of recyclable plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and cardboard each year.
