The summer’s competitive housing market in Sacramento has cooled down in the autumn along with the temperatures, opening the door for a smoother buying experience for those doing home-hunting in the area.

According to the Sacramento Bee, homes are spending more time on the market and home inventory has grown. This is in significant contrast to peak buying season earlier this year, which saw homes being sold at a record pace.

Experts say that this cooling-down is a normal period that generally comes after a hot spring and summer buying season. The market moderates during this time because most people would rather not buy or sell over the holiday season.

According to figures from the Sacramento Association of Realtors, September saw a 13 percent rise in single-family home inventory for sale in Sacramento County and West Sacramento.

Homes are still selling quickly, with 13 being the median number of days that single-family residences spent on the market in September. That’s only two days longer than the August median. The median home price also fell slightly from $349,000 to $348,000.
