A 15-acre parcel of land located in the heart of the thriving Midtown Phoenix area is for sale, according to the Downtown Phoenix Journal.

Located near a light rail station at E. Indian School Road and N. Central Avenue, the site is one block south of the Camelback and Central intersection, which was recently named one of the hottest intersections in Phoenix by the Urban Land Institute.

The federally owned parcel was recently transferred to the U.S. by landholding company Barron Collier as part of their legal obligations stemming from the 1988 Arizona-Florida Land Exchange Act. The site was part of the historic Phoenix Indian School, which was a school for Arizona Native American students until it closed in 1990.

As promised by Congress, the funds generated by the sale of the property will be deposited into the Inter-Tribal Trust Fund and Navajo Trust Fund for future educational programs, preschools, foster programs, academic counseling for tribal youth, and other initiatives.

The parcel will be sold via online auction by the Government Services Administration and will open for bids later this year.
