The public transit company Metro is gearing up to renovate the Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station in November. According to a recent status report from the Metro’s Construction Committee, all phases of the renovation project designs are completed. The company is currently awaiting approval from Los Angeles County and Caltrans.

If all goes smoothly, the $66 million revamp of the station will include features that have been needed by the community for years. These features include:

  • New elevators, escalators, and stairs for the raised Green Line platform
  • Upgraded lights, signals, and pedestrian paths for transit users
  • An extended platform with a shaded canopy
  • A new Metro Customer Service Center and Sheriff substation
  • A new transit security facility
  • Additional bicycle and vehicle parking
  • A main plaza for easy travel to the nearby shopping center
  • New public artwork

The architecture agency RNL has been commissioned to design the station upgrades. If approved by the county and Caltrans, the Metro will begin an invitation for bids from contractors beginning in October. The project is scheduled to finish by 2020.
