Lake Forest Mayor Rob Lansing recently disclosed that the city has spent $192,000 on lobbying for an Amtrak stop, according to the Chicago Tribune. Lansing also announced that Amtrak supports the idea of a stop in Lake Forest.

The city is lobbying to add an Amtrak stop on the Hiawatha line at the existing western train station, according to the report.

Lansing did not offer any details on how the $192,000 has been spent. A number of lobbyist contacted federal agencies on behalf of Lake Forest, according to the report.

The city did face some criticism over lack of transparency related to the lobbying from both aldermen and the local group Alliance to Control Train Impacts on Our Neighborhoods (ACTION), according to the report.

Amtrak plans to increase trips on its Hiawatha line from seven round trips to 10 round trips per day.

"We share the vision that adding a stop in Lake Forest will leverage the route's current success and make it an even more valuable transportation option for the region," Joe McHugh, Amtrak's Vice President for State Supported Services, said in a letter, according to the report.
