Living in Los Angeles, residents are more than aware of the city’s almost impossibly high housing costs. However, how many people actually considered moving away from all of it? In a recent poll released by Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies, results showed that a lot of Californians want out.

According to the survey sample, for those living in Los Angeles County, 42 percent considered the problem of housing affordability in their area as “extremely serious,” while 59 percent of residents living in LA had thought about moving due to rising housing costs.

If you examine the other surveyed demographics, 69 percent of people between the ages 30 and 39, and 65 percent of individuals between the ages of 18 and 29 (young millennials) have also considered moving due to the rise in housing prices. On the other hand, only 38 percent of people above the age of 65 have considered relocating.

The poll was conducted on a total of 1,200 registered California voters from August through September.

Several LA communities such as Inglewood and DTLA have already voiced growing concerns about being priced out of their neighborhoods through gentrification. Perhaps a mass exodus from Los Angeles would indeed solve the issue of ridiculously high housing costs. With a lack of demand, developers are sure to lower prices, right? (Yeah, right).
