It looks like Elon Musk isn’t the only one trying to fix LA traffic. The ridesharing service Lyft, in conjunction with the architecture company Perkins + Will and consulting group Nelson\Nygaard, have also decided to take a shot at redesigning the streets of Los Angeles.

According to Curbed, Lyft’s reimagined street designs include making way for more sidewalks, benches, trees, protected bike lanes, dedicated bus lanes, and lanes for self-driving cars. Using one of LA’s busiest streets as an example, the ride-share company reconfigured 10 lanes of high-traffic lanes into a more streamlined plan, assigning various lanes for certain types of vehicles.

Surprisingly, the reinvented layout cuts a number of lanes and provides a greener, more pedestrian-friendly version of LA’s current street design. The proposal shows that the city can have fewer lanes for cars while accommodating over double a number of passengers through carpooling and increase in transit use.

Los Angeles’ Department of City Planning has already been working on more efficient ways to reduce traffic through its Mobility Plan, which is set to happen by 2035. The city is also looking at ways to increase the number of public transit options and bike paths.
