With the popularity of craft beer exploding not just in Florida, but across the country, beer has become more than just a libation—it’s a destination. Beer gardens are popping up across South Florida, and they’re attracting both beer lovers and those who like to socialize in a relaxed setting. Here are the neighborhoods where you’ll find them.

Wynwood

Outdoor patio in Wynwood neighborhood

In a neighborhood that prides itself on its relaxed, artistic vibe, it’s no surprise that beer gardens can be found in Wynwood. The Butcher Shop Beer Garden & Grill is located in the heart of the neighborhood at 165 NW 23rd St. Beers can be purchased on draft in sizes including pints, liters, pitchers, and towers and come in varieties such as lagers, IPAs, amber ales, and brown ales. Meat lovers will especially enjoy dishes with prime black Angus beef, organic chicken, and smoked sausages.

Garden Food and Bar offers the type of environment many people associate with beer gardens, such as picnic tables and food trucks. It also features live music and entertainment, happy hour, hookah, and daily drink specials.

Brick at 187 NW 28th St. is a stone’s throw from the Wynwood Walls, and the bar combines an artistic environment with a robust craft beer menu, seasonal specialty cocktails, live entertainment nightly, and jumbo-sized Jenga—just don’t spill the beer.

Miami Beach

To be sure, Miami Beach has its fair share of trendiness and places to “chill” even if consuming beer isn’t a part of your plans. But it also happens to have a few hip beer gardens where you can combine your love of surf and sea with your passion for suds. The Bikini Hostel Cafe & Beer Garden is a favorite choice for those seeking to enjoy craft beer and food at a reasonable price. Its central location within the heart of South Beach is walking distance to many of the neighborhood’s popular attractions such as nightclubs, restaurants, Flamingo Park, and, of course, the beach. For that reason, it’s a must-stop spot for visitors seeking to soak up the South Beach lifestyle.

Every third Thursday of the month at the Raleigh Hotel on West Avenue in South Beach, you can attend Buck’s Beer Garden & Bonfire where the hotel turns into a “backyard oasis” offering ocean views. Patrons can enjoy craft brews, barbecue bites, and games such as ping-pong and corn hole.

If you don’t live in Miami—or want to explore other neighborhoods in South Florida—you can find beer gardens in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Rhythm & Vine at 401 NE 5th Terrace seems like your own backyard—only with fake grass and an enclosed bar made from an airstream trailer. The venue also has an indoor space for those times when the heat or rain prevent you from being outdoors. Local food trucks park on its outskirts on a rotating basis and a host of events are held throughout the week, including Local Love Wednesdays when Fort Lauderdale residents (with a valid address per their driver’s license) are treated to 50 percent off their checks and Funky Brunch Sundays when you can enjoy bottomless bloody marys, mimosas, and rose from 1 to 4 p.m. for $20.

Township FTL at 219 S. Andrews Ave. is a sister venue to another Township in Tallahassee, which is a part of Florida State University’s College Town. Its motto, “For the table, by the people,” is meant to evoke its sense of community among its patrons, who often gather in large groups at the long picnic-style tables. The list of available brews is longer than your arm and beer is sold by the 1/3 liter, one-half liter, or 1 liter. Township also serves food, with lunch, dinner, and brunch menus.
