Phoenix Rolls Out 20,000 Miles of New Bus Routes
Traveling to North Phoenix is about to get a whole lot easier thanks to a new bus route and the addition of 20,000 miles to the existing circuit, according to ABC 15.
Joining the existing Valley Metro route called “Zoom South,” which connects Phoenix areas to Avondale, the new route will extend along 83rd and connect Tolleson, Glendale, and Peoria in the northwest. The final stop will be located at the Peoria Sports Complex.
Along Ray Road from 48th Street to Gilbert Road, another new route will connect Ahwatukee, Tempe, Chandler, and Gilbert. The east will also see the addition of the "Orbit Saturn” to connect the Benedict Sports Complex, Tempe Public Library, Kiwanis Park as well as other areas. Per Tempe’s City Website, the Orbit route performs “flag” stops, which are pick-ups and drop-offs for any passengers along the designated route that it is deemed safe to do so.
The city is hopeful these additions encourage residents to explore their neighborhoods. The new routes are part of the voter-approved Phoenix Transportation 2050 initiative for investing in bus service, light rail construction, and street improvements.
