According to The Real Deal, plans have been filed for a new mixed-use condo complex in South Central Los Angeles. Orbit Electric, the owner of the property at 2100 S. Figueroa St. in the University Park neighborhood, submitted the plans in early July according to the report.

In total, the site would hold 291 condos plus 7,000 square feet of commercial space. While the location currently houses Orbit Electric’s facilities, it appears that would change with this project.

The site is located less than two blocks from the Los Angeles Technical Trade College, and right nearby on-ramps for the Interstate 10 and Interstate 110 freeways.

The new 2100 S. Figueroa St. development would be the latest in a line of efforts to change Historic South Central LA and usher in new living, working, and retail spaces. Downtown LA’s development boom moved into South Central a couple years ago, but that effort is not without its challenges. Curbed LA cited a report back in 2015 that estimated nearly 4,500 residents could be displaced by large projects like the Reef, located at 1933 South Broadway (about a half-mile away from the Orbit Electric project).
