According to Builder Online, San Francisco built just one new home for every 10.4 new jobs created in 2016. While the city saw the creation of 27,048 new jobs that year, there were only 2,600 new homes created to meet the workforce demand. The news comes from the San Francisco Planning Department’s recently released job growth tally.

The ratio comes as yet another sign of San Francisco’s housing crisis, where low availability leads to skyrocketing prices. Thousands commute into San Francisco on a daily basis but are forced to find housing outside the city.

The did see an increase in total wages, according to the Planning Department’s report. Total wages increased by six percent in 2016, reaching $71.5 billion (or a $101,640 median wage).
