A study by Hotpads has revealed what renters and buyers are really looking for when they search for housing in San Francisco.

Patterns the study found in city listings between January and July 2017 focused on high demand for luxury amenities — such as Bosch appliances and concierge service — and an almost necessary need for transportation nearby.

Here are the most popular listing amenities in San Francisco, starting with the most desired:

  1. Shuttles, although under 10 percent of the city has this amenity listed
  2. Bosch appliances, 10.8 percent of listings featured them
  3. Concierge service, 14.7 percent of city listings has them
  4. Panoramic views, which only 8.5 percent of listings promised
  5. Gourmet kitchens, which 10.1 percent of listings offered
  6. Decks, which could be found in 26.6 percent of San Francisco listings
  7. Studio Becker cabinetry, found in a scant 3.1 percent of listings
  8. Storage space, a necessity found in 37.6 percent of listings
  9. Garage parking, available in 32.8 percent of listings
  10. Courtyards, which came up in just 9.4 percent of available homes

Not only did the Hotpads study bring to light what housing amenities are the most desired, but it also found the least most popular amenities for the city.

Pools, tennis courts, grills, and yards are not what city residents are looking for, according to the study. Perhaps a little less surprising is that heaters are the third-least popular amenities in San Francisco, as the weather tends to remain on the warmer side. San Francisco housing shoppers are also not looking for exposed brick, which was the second-least popular item on the list. The least popular listing amenity in San Francisco? Basements.
