The Guadalupe River area of San Jose remains relatively undeveloped, attracting mostly nature seekers and outdoorsy locals. However, San Jose development company Swenson has set its eyes on giving the area a full makeover.

Josh Burroughs, the senior development manager at Swenson, says the company has spent six years working on a concept and renderings to make the Guadalupe River area a fully developed and integrated neighborhood, according to a KTVU report.

The plan, called “The District at the Guadalupe River Walk,” will see massive development covering 30 acres near the SAP Center. The vision includes mixed-use high-rise buildings, outdoor park space with zip-lines, river kayaking, and a shopping center. If the plan comes to fruition, it would create an entirely new neighborhood in San Jose, providing housing, employment, and entertainment.

The proposed plan does not currently provide a solution for the dozens of homeless residents currently living in the Guadalupe River area. The plan also incorporates 300-foot tall buildings, which would be in the flight path of aircrafts landing at the Mineta San Jose International Airport. The FAA limits heights of buildings in the area to just 150 feet.
