See Stars at LA's Summer Outdoor Movie Screenings
Los Angeles is a town known for its stars. In the summer, it’s about another kind of stars: Those you can see in the city’s many outdoor film screenings. Here’s a list of summer cinema experiences, in neighborhoods ranging from Hollywood to Montclair.
Cinespia - Hollywood
For years there’s been an LA tradition beloved by locals and newcomers in the know. It’s the chance to experience Hollywood surrounded by Hollywood royalty of the past. At Cinespia, you’ll get a cinematic experience that will have you dancing with the stars of old.
Cinespia hosts classic films during the summer in the Hollywood Forever cemetery with special showings on major holidays, including their annual showing of “Jaws” on the 4th of July. You can bring your own food and drinks (alcohol included) and dance and mingle before the movie with DJs and photo ops. All ages are welcome.
Silverlake Picture Show - Silverlake
Silverlake Picture Show is a free outdoor film series in Silverlake. It’s been happening Thursdays in Silverlake’s Sunset Triangle Plaza since 2012. The show runners help to foster a community hub. The viewings are family-friendly and open to everyone.
Eat See Hear - Hollywood
Other locations: Pasadena and North Hollywood
Eat See Hear, sponsored by Showtime, is an outdoor cinema series that hosts modern classic screenings all around Los Angeles neighborhoods. They feature food trucks and live music, too. Explore Los Angeles parks in neighborhoods all over the county from Hollywood to Pasadena to North Hollywood.
Street Food Cinema - Glendale
Other locations: Malibu, Culver City, and Pasadena
Street Food Cinema brings cult classic outdoor cinema experiences to various park locations around Los Angeles. DJs and food trucks will be present as you explore Los Angeles parks in neighborhoods including Glendale, Malibu, Culver City, Pasadena, and more.
Mission Tiki Drive-in - Montclair
Other location: San Diego
In the outskirts of Los Angeles in a distant suburb neighborhood called Montclair lies the Mission Tiki Drive-in. The classic drive-in experience is open nightly seven days a week showing new movies. It’s a family-friendly, affordable outdoor movie event. Ticket prices are consistent with their other location in San Diego at $9 for adults and $1 for children under 10. Food is relatively inexpensive, too, with $2 snacks available.
Rooftop Cinema Club - Hollywood
Other location: Downtown, Hollywood
The Rooftop Cinema Club is here just in time for the summer. The Rooftop Cinema Club shows cult classics, new releases, and modern movie hits on the roof of the Level hotel in Downtown Los Angeles and on the roof of the Montalban in Hollywood.
Melrose Rooftop Theatre - West Hollywood
The Melrose Rooftop Theatre is a posh and fashionable event. This West Hollywood venue is on top of the E.P & L.P and starts after sunset from May to November.
This venue is 21 and over since there’s alcohol served, and it’s a bit pricier than other options on the list. Admission is $27.50 for seating on bean bag chairs and $65 for a dinner and movie package. No outside food or drinks are allowed.
