Metro staff presented studies during its San Gabriel Valley Service Council meeting May 8 to discuss the feasibility of relocating three separate Metrolink rail stations. Metro commissioned Independent feasibility studies for all three stations, as well as a proposed fourth staton. The feasibility study was initially conceived in March 2016.

The El Monte Metrolink Station and El Monte Bus Station are currently three-quarters of a mile apart, however, a relocated Metrolink station would be just one-third of a mile from the bus station. Metro’s proposal calls for the new station to be located at Valley Boulevard and Santa Anita Avenue.

For the Montebello/Commerce Metrolink Station, the study calls for a move closer to the Citadel Outlets and a potential link to the LA Metro’s Gold Line train. The current stop is 1.5 miles away from the outlets, but the new stop would be a five-minute walk instead.

A study was also conducted with regard to relocating the Northridge Metrolink Station to Reseda Boulevard, however, those results were not included in the May 8 presentation.

Finally, Metro would add an additional Metrolink station in at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, which would double as a hub for the bus system.

All comments and survey results will be due to Metro by May 19. All findings on alternatives will be reported to the Metro Board in September.
