Thousands of people move to Texas every year, and recent data proves that many of those people stay there. According to a recent mortgage analysis reported in the Dallas Morning News, Texas has the fewest mortgage applications from people looking to leave the state.

The North Carolina-based mortgage company Lending Tree studied the trends in real estate transactions for all 50 states in the past year. What they found is that the residents in Texas, Michigan, and Florida had the lowest number of out-of-state moves. Residents of Texas, Michigan, and Florida were most likely to seek new mortgages in the same state. Ohio and Oklahoma residents were also among the least likely to move out of state.

Only slightly more than 7 percent of Texans were looking to make out-of-state moves. Interestingly, the most common destination for Texans seeking mortgages in other states was Florida, itself a pretty stable choice. Florida is a popular place for retirement homes, including for Texans.

The states were residents were most likely to leave in search of mortgages in other states were Vermont, Hawaii, Alaska, and North Dakota.
