The teachers and principal at San Gabriel are great. They seem to really know the students and care about them. Even though they did not make their AYP for 2011, I personally have seen amazing growth in my child since he began attending the school. The office staff I feel may be a bit over-worked, because sometimes things seem to be overlooked and occasionally they can be short and/or condescending. Overall though I do think it is a very good school.

The teachers are great and very interested in the kids as people. They take the extra time and effort if the students need help.

San Gabriel has a passionate staff, exemplary principal, eager students and engaged parents who come together with creativity and enthusiasm to make an amazing learning and social atmosphere out of less and less funding every year. The quality of learning and passion go up even as funding dwindles. I've honestly never seen anything quite like it, but am very proud to be part of it and in such great company!

My son attended San Gabriel from K-5, and for two of those years I worked as a yard supervisor there as well. Between my roles as parent and employee, I had opportunity to observe the students, staff and community on a daily basis. I was continually impressed by the dedication of the teaching and support staff and the level of parent involvement. Among the great programs San Gabriel offered was 'SECOND STEP', teaching 2nd graders how to deal with anger issues and approach problem solving in a positive and practical mannor. I have shared these techniques with adults and youth in other settings, and found them highly effective. Diversity and inclusion are highly respected and appreciated at San Gabriel. Their consideration for students with special/other needs was exemplary. Trained and caring aides are available on a one-to-one basis to ensure each child achieved his/her maximum potential in the most open environment. The staff is involved above and beyond the call of duty. On any day, one can find principal Chris Balough walking the grounds and talking with the students individually and in groups. Teachers are available to meet with parents whenever concerns arise, either in person or by phone. They serve as mentors and role models outside the classroom setting and all of my son's teachers were genuinely concerned with his personal growth beyond grade level expectations. Despite recent budget cutbacks, San Gabriel has endeavored to keep enrichment programs in the arts and sciences and field trips at their prior levels.
