BHS is an amazing high school that has something for everyone. My eldest daughter graduated last year and had an amazing experience getting involved in clubs and academics along with making lasting friendships. A plethora of clubs are offered along with many other classes, such as ceramics, fashion, home economics, and wood/metal shop. The gate/honors program is incredible with caring/committed teachers. We love BHS! It's the best in Bakersfield.

After retiring as a chemist after 30 years of work, I decided to take up teaching as a profession. In order to find out if teaching was for me, I decided to first work as a substitute teacher. My first assignment was at Bakersfield High School in a chemistry class and I had a very positive experience there. Its campus looks like that of a college or university - I liked it much! Contrary to many other local high schools where I worked as a substitute, I found the students at BHS to be surprisingly very polite and well behaved. The students were very respectful of me and listened to me attentively as I tutored them in chemistry. I have recently completed a 14-day chemistry classroom attendance at BHS as part of a Teaching Credential Program in which I am now enrolled, and I must say that the experience was again very positive. The chemistry teacher in the classroom which I was placed to observe was knowledgeable and very fond of his students, and the students clearly had much respect for him. After I get my teaching certification, if BHS is hiring chemistry teachers, I will definitely apply for the position in that school.

Great School, Awesome Foot Ball Coaches. But my experience with the office staff and Athletic office very poor, very unorganized. Summer School was Sad experience for my 2 freshmen Kids . Waited 4 hours in line for Summer School classes they were next in line and sadly had the doors closed on them with no explanation. next day waited 3 hours in the heat finally got a class assigned. Athletic director lost my sons physical document. Good thing my son recorded the time he handed his information to the lady in that department. she is very hard to get in touch with. Had to go to the office and asked to speak with someone .My son Showed them the video and "Thank God", every thing was corrected. My kids also went to the freshmen rally the paper stated be first to get your schedules if you attn the rally. My sons had no schedule provided to them? Even though they attended the 8 hours long Orientation. Called 08/17/15 and explained that my kids had attended the Freshman Orientation and never received a class schedule in person or by mail. A very rude office lady Stated it was only a preliminary schedule and every freshman on 08/19/15 had to go either to the Gym or Cafeteria to get their class schedule. She did say that my children had a schedule. I asked if I could go pick it up or can it be fax to me she said "NO" they will have to wait in line like the other incoming freshman. My kids had to waist 8 hours of their time to attn a long Orientation. To avoid the long first day of school schedule lines but it was just a big lie to get kids to attn the orientation. Please fined a way to be more Organize so our children don't get discourage. To all office staff Lead by example. Our children are people don't treat them like numbers. As a parent I want to feel that the school that they attn have caring people that care about their student not their pay checks. I hope next review I write about BHS staff will be better then this one. crossing my fingers. My boys did tell me that both their summer school professors were great. Academics class the only class they could get in to after a long wait in line. Hope to see changes. Once a Driller always a Driller class of 1998. My boys will be class of Class of 2019.

strong school. Both of my children have attended BHS and were extremely involved representing their school. The school offers many opportunities for growth and invlovement. Security is good and a priority is safety! Tradition runs deep
