There's a fair amount of good teachers at this school. The principal is approachable, and good with students. A few times a month the school offers parent workshops. The workshops range from social media to cybersecurity. The students celebrate and participate in school spirit week, back to school night, multicultural day, and other activities. Overall, we like the school environment, the principal, and the office staff.
I love Vista! The families, teachers and administration are great. The teachers are highly dedicated and highly trained. Vista is an AVID school and ranks 9/10 for state Similar Schools. Only two other Claremont schools have a higher or as high ranking. Children and their families represent cultures from around the world which I love; Latin American, different parts of Asia, Middle Eastern families and more. Unfortunately they don't offer bilingual ed here (or anywhere in Claremont that I know of...I would love for my kid to have the opportunity to learn another language), but the diversity is a plus. The administration has implemented all kinds of programs over the years to get kids psyched about going to school, including sports teams and a green team environmental club. There is art and music and fun events throughout the year, like an end-of-year-open-house multicultural day celebration where each classroom "turns into" another part of the world. Vista is an important part of the Claremont community and a great school!
This is the best school in the community! Both of my kids have gone to school here since kindergarten and it continues to get better. No where else will you get such a caring family feel, as well has high expectations for your childrens success. Vista was the first school to get the college prep program AVID at the elementary school. We have been able to visit 2 universities and my kids talk about going to college. Thank you to the principal for taking us to the UCLA college fair and the Rose Bowl for a football game! We love the teachers, office staff, principal and know that you will too!
At Vista, there are a few truly good teachers who are dedicated to the children. All the teachers are results-driven, but most public schools are due to standardized testing. Some parents think the principal is arrogant and cannot or does not want to relate to them. I wonder if he even realizes that is how he is perceived. The demographics of this school consist of working families, and the majority of the children receive free or reduced lunches. Since most parents are working, there are very few parent volunteers. The PFA is almost non-existent, and the people running it are unfriendly and in a clique. They stand around in a circle and gossip about other moms. Yes, I overheard you. I don t see the PFA out and about getting parents involved except for a couple of the new moms last year. They lack vision and creativity and organization and leadership. Fundraisers/events are usually boring and the food terrible. Bake sales and more bake sales of mostly store bought junk food. Except for last year, they served only hot dogs for Multicultural Night! But hey, Vista has a nice green campus and garden, and the rude lunch lady is gone so far!
