In my experience, school does not have very good communication with parents. It seems like I find out about events with very short notice. Their website is not current, should be updated to keep parents informed. I agree with previous post, school focuses more on attendance than anything else. My youngest is in kindergarten, and friends who have kids in kinder are talking about kinder graduations coming up, while Vicentia does nothing. My kids have very good grades, and do great on all testing, but I felt harassed because oldest was late to school a handful of times (like 5-10 min). when I met with principal, she was marked incorrectly for absences and were not fixed on record. Also received call at work asking why kindergartener was absent, when she had been dropped off at school that morning. Told secretary she was at school and she told me I would get a call back because kinder was at lunch and had to wait until they got back to class to check if she was there. Who does that?! In a panic, I called grandma, who lives nearby and she went to school and checked herself to confirm she was there. This school seems to be doing worse under new principal...

While they do have some awesome teachers that love the kids as if they were their own, the principal has to go in my opinion. Last year my daughter was in kinder and the principal decided the kinder class did not need a graduation ceremony because "they aren't graduating from anything". So while all the other elementary schools had the ceremony, ours didn't for this simple fact. Graduating, culminating, call it what you want, it's tradition and no one should've been left to feel excluded. There is no real classical reading program implemented other than reading counts, and they want perfect attendance so bad they give out classroom awards and parents are left with feeling obligated to send their sick kids to school. We will be switching schools next year, so sad to see the old principal mr lewis go.

Vicentia is easily the worst school in the district. The administration is unresponsive, disconnected and aloof. If you live in the area and you care about your child's education please put them into Lincoln.

Great teachers keep students on track for future. Classrooms could use teacher assistants for more quality teacher time.
