I can't say enough good things about this school. The staff is wonderful. They are helpful and genuinely have our children's best interest at heart. The principal is open minded, caring, and has an open door policy to both children and civil parents. Most parents are active in their child's educational process and understand the in's and out's of school programs and LAUSD guidelines. With that being said, any reasonable person would understand that not everything is 'free of charge'. As a member of this PTA, I can tell you every one of these members is hard working and sincere in our efforts. We will continue to work for our children as well as the caring faculty that watch over and protect our children 'free of charge' every day. While that care may not be appreciated by some, it is appreciated by many here at this school and we can't thank the staff of 156th Street Elementary enough.

This is an awesome school. The entire faculty and the much-involved PTA are dedicated in providing all students with the best education, care and safety. It's a high-performing school that emphasizes not only in academics, but building character and moral ethics for their students. In fact, they offer afterschool enrichment classes from STEAM, chess, running to guitar! The PTA, small but active, is very effective. They raise funds to pay for necessities, such as student agendas, buses for field trips, the acclaimed Accelerated Reader program and for safety, a school crossing guard and more! For many years, they even paid for early morning supervision for the numerous working parent population. I don't know of any schools that provide this service. Unfortunately, due to the rising costs and the popularity of the program, the PTA could no longer afford to absorb those costs. They had to hire an additional person for the safety of the kids. This means double the wages and associated costs. Instead of taking away this benefit to the many who use it, the PTA asked for participants to pay a modest $100 for the entire school year which equates to $0.55 per day. Who can YOU hire for $0.55 an hour? This is a deal! Working parents can drop off their kids as early as 7:00, and have peace of mind; knowing that they are in a controlled, SAFE environment in lieu of dropping off their kids on the corner, leaving them unattended and without proper supervision. I speak about this passionately as I am a participant of this program and a proud member of the PTA. The PTA nor the school has made ANY money off of this program. They did not benefit monetarily. I wish more parents would take the time to learn the facts and be more involved in the school and PTA before posting erroneous and hurtful information; hurtful to the PTA who work hard for the school and the children, and hurtful to the school itself for posting publicly this INCORRECT information.

My daughter has been attending this school for 6 years now and I have never had any complaints until this year. As far as the curriculum I have no complaints it is a great school. However, this year a new program was implemented where parents must pay 100 dollars to drop of their kids early even if its 5 minutes before the gates open. So your talking about 400 kids being dropped of within a 10 to 15 minute gap, imagine the traffic nightmare. Today, I dropped of my child 2 minutes before the gate open, my child was not able to cross the street and even go to the front of the school, she was sent back to the car. I got out the car and spoke to school staff, which then stated that children were not allowed to be dropped of before the gate opens. At this point, I felt that the school is trying to profit from the parents !!!. I am very disappointed in the way that this has been handled from the principal!!. Children and parents should not be punished because the PTA wants to be greedy. Some parents can't pay that is why they go to public schools !!!. A parent that was dropping of her kids at the same time I was, took her kids back home because she was also sent away. So the school would rather turn kids away? . I am beyond flabbergasted with the situation and the staff at the school for putting parents and students in such a situation.
