Extremely positive, great school to be involved with.

If you have your kids there, good luck. We are hopeful for better quality families, teachers and staff at our next school. It used to be a good school. But from my experience, I would run.

My son transferred from another school district before his 5th grade year. It was at this school we found out he qualified for an IEP. Before that, his teacher treated him like he was a behavioral issue. He was publicly humiliated on multiple occasions by his teacher and other students. It wasn't until we transferred him to another district that we realized exactly how much help he was actually entitled to. Since leaving El Portal, his grades have improved, his self esteem has improved, he's joined after school clubs and has received citizenship awards. I would've thought this was an isolated case had I not also been a former student of this school and teacher. Don't let the ratings fool you

My children had some great teachers at this school. It services an affluent area and the parent involvement is very high. My children loved this school. This school is however used to affluent families and has little patience for families that may need some help due to a lack of resources. The administration would rather transfer a child out of the school than deal with the child's needs if any inconvenience can be avoided. Again, the teachers are wonderful. The administration definitely does not put students first.
