I have two children that have been going here since kinder, and my oldest is currently in 3rd grade. I have had a really positive experience at this school. They have both had different teachers, and I've never had any problems or question their devotion to the kids. From the front office, the teachers, the principal, the nurse, the lunch ladies, to the janitors, they definitely put their hearts out there for the kids at this school -- and from what I've seen not just my kids, but all the kids. The rating might be low, but they do work hard to push kids to excel. I would recommend this school to anyone that may be concerned about the ratings. I for one was shocked they were so low. I thought from my experience the school would be higher. However, that's tests for you; they only offer one perspective.
I'm so confused about all of these low ratings. I have a second grader and a TK'er and this school does everything they can to make sure the kids are learning. Great school, great teachers.
If you are thinking of having your child with special needs, I would advise to look at other schools within your district before making your decision(s) before you have your child(ren) attend Las Lomas Elementary. My advise to parents is research your options.
I have a 1st grader who attended kindergarten with the most amazing teacher. She excelled in her curriculum and social aspects of school as well. Unfortunately 1st grade has been so bad that I had to pull her out of school to attend elsewhere. Her excel teacher is really rude, causing my daughter to return home on most days with a broken heart and feeling like a failure. Her regular 1st grade teacher however has been great. The staff have never been my favorite people, even through kindergarten they have shown little concern or care. I have nothing positive or negative to say about the principle. She is a very tough person who will tell you how "unacceptable" it is to show up to school 5 minutes late, which is definitely a bummer. One of the most difficult parts is that although kindergarten maintains a very regular schedule, 1st grade consistently changes its schedule every couple months-ish, for a week at a time (whether it be Friday thru the following Thursday, or a Monday thru Friday) as well as the consistent and odd middle-of-the-week (Wednesday) change-up in schedule where you start school 1 hour early and end 50 minutes early.
