This school is great. I attended this school as a child and now my children get a chance to experience its greatness. My son most recently participated in the new dual language program for Kindergarten and it was amazing. Mrs. King took on this tasks and was very influential in my son learning to read and write in both English and Spanish. As an Early Education Teacher, I was very happy that the school not only focused on cognitive and language development, they nurtured the whole child though social-emotional and physical interactions. My son was taught not only though lecture but by working in groups and working independently. He was challenged to think critically by testing and experimenting. All staff is welcoming. Each staff member knows and greets my son by name in the morning. The principal is always around greeting and talking to parents. My son loves the after school program LA's Best. I know my son is safe and secure when I drop him off at school. He always looks forward to another day of seeing his friends and teachers.
My daughter attends this school. She has been there for a couple years and we are looking for another school for next year. There aren't enough parents that try to get things done here. The principal is "too busy" and the teachers just don't care about the kids.
Latona is a safe, small, close-knit, welcoming environment. It is a gem hidden in the hills. My two sons loved the teachers and the afterschool program.
Latona needs new principal. Mrs Murphy needs to retire or be replaced! Avoids important issues, Doesn't communicate effectively with parents and is very rude to staff member, students, and parents.
