Mariposa-Nabi is a small student-centered school serving students TK-2nd grade. The campus is safe, clean and beautiful. Student are taught a balanced curriculum that focus on three core values: respect, responsibility and safety.
My son came home with a black eye the first year there and the teacher didn't tell me anything and when. I asked about it she said she would talk to the kid but that stuff like that happens..I asked my son what happened to the kid and he said nothing all the teacher did was make him apologize. The his teacher would tell me he was doing really good and even the best in his class and he helped her too but couldn't give him an above average score . Then the second year my son came home with a big bump on his forehead and again the teacher didn't know about it my son had fallen on the floor and the bump was the size of a golf ball and she " didn't notice"?! Then on back to school night as we were asking how he was doing in class she interrupted the conversation and started taking pic tired with other parents as if picture taking was more important than talking to parents about how their children are doing and what they can do to help . The only thing is some of the staff is nice and helpful
This school is incredible! The (former) principal, Mr. R. kept it together. My 3 children were here last school year. They were accepted into the magnet program this upcoming school year. Mariposa Nabi has set the standard for all the things I look for in a school. I was surprised to find such quality in LAUSD. The teachers were all outstanding. Although I sometimes wanted to send a note to my child's kindergarten teacher to remind her that this was his first year of school and not his freshman year in college-her expectations!!! Wow! But I really am grateful to her!;-) and my other child's 2nd grade teacher, OMG. I frequently visited his classroom (unannounced) and the children were always on task, always engaged. I can not say enough wonderful things about this teacher. Watching her say goodbye to her graduating class was just overwhelming. What a remarkable teacher! Her heart is truly in teaching. The office staff were always responsive, respectful and professional. The school is clean and I believe Mr. G. knows every child's name. I hope Mr. R. can help his new school to be a great school--like Mariposa Nabi! Thank you for the wonderful memories.
My daughter goes to this school and I think that it is ok but the one thing that bothers me is that she has a perfect score on all her test and excels in every subject yet she has received satisfactory scores. Even the teacher admits that she is above average and she can't pull herself to give her an above average score. I definitely don't understand why they can't grade the way the child is performing
