Both of my children went through Andersen Elementary and we are so grateful to have such an amazing school in our community. My son is very bright and the teachers always found ways to challenge him and keep him engaged. My daughter is smart too, but struggles with attention and anxiety. The only year she struggled was in Kindergarten, and I firmly believe it was the result of a bad teacher - the only one we had during our time at Andersen. After that year, every teacher made huge effort to address her needs so she could be successful in school and now a leader in school and she is getting straight As. Andersen is a tremendous part of the community and provides a safe and loving environment to raise your children. I wish every public school was as amazing as Andersen!

Overall, I would say that my experience was not great! There are way too many politics and it starts at the top!!

We had hopes for this school as it has a great set up in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, our son had an awful teacher for second grade who we found out later was hired because she is neighbors with the principal. His teacher had poor classroom management and lacked basic technology skills. Our son was getting bullied and the response from the teacher was that "majority rules on the playground". Bullying is rampant at Andersen and the principal tries to sweep it under the rug with instead of actually doing anything about it she just presents buddy not bully awards to almost every kid. This school is very hard to attend as a new kid or outsider as lots of students are second generation port streeters and well either you are in or you are out.

It is a great school with great staff and awesome programs for our children to learn (art, science, computers, music). We love Andersen!!
