Bad experience here the last pass 3 years
I think if your preppy and uptight you will hate this school and get jumped very quick. The security however could never stop fights and would end up getting the receiving end of a beating. But every fight was for a reason. Fights everyday in the senior square. I honestly felt that norwalk high school didnt teach me anything. Im mexican and still failed spanish class. I switched schools 2 years in and moved out the city. I felt like I didnt learn a thing but my alumni school said I had too many credits than needed. To end this I have to say if you dont like this high school then take your self to a preppy white school like john glenn. All in all its a good school.
I am a former student of NHS. Its sad, the staff is semi well intentioned , but this school is in a horrible community. You have a very small pocket of students that excel. There is also a lot of racial tension at the school, and within the community. I enjoyed myself when I was there. Ive gone on and left the neighborhood. The best move I could have made for my family. I did go on to graduate college however, my time at NHS did not prepare me for it. I had a lot of catching up to do and I was an HONORS/AP student at NHS!!! If its within your power just avoid the Norwalk LaMirada School District altogether.
I attended NHS from 99-03. It was the best 4 years of my life! I transferred to Norwalk High from Bell High. I lived in Maywood for 13 years, and Norwalk was the best choice my parents could have made for my sisters and I. Norwalk was a big change, but a great one with the school being a traditional school, Sept - June. Less vacation than an year round school like Bell. The teachers were great! My graduation class was one of the largest in Norwalk History. Our Counselors were great at meeting with us on one on ones. The Principal and School Board Members would sit in and observe our classes. My sisters graduated in 2009 and 2011. They both went on to pursue degrees in History and Psychology with respectable Higher Education Institutions. I have worked for the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles as an Adminsitratice Assistant for Upper Management. I am now working for a World-Renowned Research Institute with the top 5 funding from the NIH as a Pre-Award Specialist. If it wasn't for the great teachers and counselors of Norwalk High School, we would not have had these great opportunities now. Norwalk is as great of a school as any other, as long as your child makes it.
