We have had a child at Colony for the last 8 school years and still have 2 more years to go. Our experience has been wonderful for three of our children. The teachers are great with communication and the office staff is great on staying on top of anything that needs to be done on their end or anything that is brought to their attention last minute. I love the school pride, the student involvement and the parent involvement. You don’t see that much once a child hits high school and at Colony it is strong.
My Daughter had amazing teachers that truly cared and guided her towards success.
Colony has some redeeming activities like its sports teams and clubs, but even then, they are lower-middle quality. The volunteering clubs like Key Club show little enthusiasm or achievements throughout a year. I wish there were more extracurriculars like academic competitions, robotics, debate, an actual math club that did competitions or discussed math, etc. It would also be nice if more students could take AP Calculus BC to form a class. There are few fun bonding socials or activities, such as student pageant shows, physics boat races, or even legitimate competitions during ASB election weeks, as most positions have only one candidate running. The school also stinks and is unattractive in architecture. The walls are an ugly pale brown and the school feels like a prison with its many bars and constantly locked doors when students are trying to get to class. It is also inaccessible as traffic is super jammed before and after school, yet administration always closes off one section of the parking lot. Rather than letting students go through the library or the middle entrance, they must walk all the way around, even in 90 degree weather. Staff will watch kids bang on the door to let them in. The school is also not diverse as having 71% of the school be Hispanic is still mostly homogenous. On the other hand, there are only 4% Asians here, which is incredibly minimal, at probably only 1 or 2 Asian kids per classroom. A similar statement could be made of whites, multiracial, native Americans Etc. Basically, this school is disappointing in academics, policies, and could use improvement in its activities.
Colony is a great school. The facilities are still fairly new and well kept. The teachers are amazing and well trained. I love the school principal very energetic and charismatic.
