The problem with the school is not the children or the parents and many years of failing test scores can prove that. It’s the principal and his staff that are not doing merely enough to help these children improve academically. Too much time is being wasted on irrelevant “soar” assemblies. There are no advance classes offered at this school which means all the kids are kept from discovering their mental capabilities. Not all children have the same learning abilities, so why not have an advance class? 90% of students are Hispanic but grow up with English as their primary language, the kids are then placed in ELD classes which are not even close to what other kids are learning at their grade. Yes, parents sign them up for that but the schools are not thoroughly explaining to the parents what they will be teaching the kids. I say this from personal experience, my child was in ELD for about a year and I noticed how behind she was being left because of that class. Teachers don’t seem to be fully proficient in both languages which cause the lack of communication and information. The principal seems to be too passive on issues that really matter, this school is not only terrible academically but also structurally. Looks like it’s falling apart. Having said all this, I really hope something is done and done immediately to improve the way this school is operating. I would suggest a change of staff, for the sake of our children, community, and future because obviously was has been going on in the past years hasn’t been working.

I'm a teacher here at Alcott and I would like to say that Mr. Arretche is one of the best principals I have worked with. He is very kind, giving and works very hard to make sure the kids and staff have the very best. Thank you Mr. Arretche!!

The staff uses modern tech and old-fashioned rigor to tackle the constantly changing demands of the educational code of California.
