This is a wonderful school Their reading specialist are the best support for kids that are in much need of it.
I just want to thank our principle for going out of her way to make sure that our kids are safe! This morning I saw the principle standing in the rain helping parents and kids cross safely to school. The crossing guard position has been vacant for a while now which can leave the children walking or biking to school in harms way. The principle stepped up and carried that responsibility to make sure our kids are safe. We’re lucky to have such a principle!
Sandpiper is truly an amazing school! My family lucked out moving to this area and being able to have our children attend here. The teachers are very dedicated and they are a great mix of seasoned veteran teachers, and new energetic teachers. The office staff is relatively new and they are also helpful and friendly. You can regularly see the office staff and principal dressed up and greeting kids at the curb during morning drop off at least once a month. It truly puts a smile on everyone's faces!I'm not sure what negative experiences the previous reviewers had, but the current principal is the BEST one we've had in my child's entire time at Sandpiper! She is a "yes" principal and has championed the wide variety of enrichment programs that are offered. Neither of the two previous principals were even close to being interested in supporting after school programs the way she does. She is the one that started the robotics program and even flew out to Kentucky to support the kids at the world championship. She fully supports the school's various cultures and goes above and beyond to show her support by dressing up in traditional clothing. My kids absolutely love her and I am always impressed at how many students she knows by name. She is human and with being a newer principal she of course is not perfect, but I find that she has done her best to address issues that fall within her control. It's because of her leadership and vision for the school that my child will be attending Sandpiper for 6th grade. These review sites always seem to be plagued by parents that had a negative experience (you can't please everyone!) and I just wanted to make sure that I took the time to share my positive experience at Sandpiper.
The school, academically speaking is very good. I can tell my son is learning very well and I am very happy with this but I have to say that this year I have been kind of disappointed with Sandpiper. I cannot even count how many times I have been upset with the way the teacher (1st year teacher, new at Sandpiper) and the principal are taking care of the problems. The principal is fairly new as well (arrived last year) and she sounds to be more concerned with sweeping issues under the rug than dealing with parents with problem students. She has a 3 phase reaction to any concern a parent might bring to her attention:Phase 1: "That's not true" or "Not possible under my watch" so basically the parent is lyingPhase 2: " Well this is not my fault, I'm not the one in charge of this" Phase 3: " You should see that with... " rolling the ball to somebody else.So disappointing…. This is not what I expect from the leader of a school.
