It is great, I hope it still is in the near future, when my little ones are ready for High School.

Amazing! I loved it! My girls had a great experience they will never forget! They were able to do so much. That would not have been so at another school. This place gave them so much... they use and remember daily now as college/university students.

I had the opportunity to see the ACE program in action for incoming freshman. Achievement and Commitment to Excellence (ACE) Student Success Program is a comprehensive student success, youth empowerment, and character-building program. The students were taught how to set goals, time manage, and maintain a positive attitude - all essential skills for success in life (unlike high test scores). LAUSD needs more schools like SJHA.

Start with a student. What does he (or she) need? What challenges does he face at home? In his community? How does he learn best? At SJHA we focus on the needs of the students and base our decisions on those needs. We provide all students with a rigorous curriculum, thoughtful and engaging instruction, opportunities to focus on areas of academic and personal challenges, and to be part of a learning community that many of our students call their second family. Our classes are taught with an interdisciplinary focus - their history class connects with their English class, science class, math class, art class, etc. Students view life through many lenses. We teach them the content while building their character and capacity. Our award-winning staff includes a California State Teacher of the Year, L.A. County Teacher of the Year, National Board Certified Teachers, and the majority hold a Masters degree. We have been the subject of two short films and we were one of four schools in the nation chosen to be a case study in the recent Corwin Press publication Growing Into Equity. Our graduation rate is 93% and every year more than 80% of our students are UC/CSU eligible.
