Both of my kids are currently going to this high school, and they have been there all four years. They will graduate in June. Staff members are great! If you have an issue or any questions they always do their best to accommodate you or refer you to the right person. I always feel good about my kids being there, if something were to go wrong I know that the staff/security will do everything in their power as a team to make sure the students are safe! What I live is they always know who is on the school grounds, they come out as soon as you start to walk in....so no one gets overlooked, they will actually take you where you need to go.My kids love it there, and they have had some really great experiences which will stay with them for the rest of their lives! Also, they will not tolerate bullying, they are very strict. I highly recommend this high school. JROTC program is my favorite, and both of my kids are in it, you will learn discipline, respect, structure, how to work as a team, and military drills. The program staff will help you if your child wants to get into the military as well !!!This is the only high school that has a JROTC that is for the “Navy” ( other SF High Sch. are army/marines)There is so much to say about this program but not enough time. This school also, provides lots of clubs your child can join ..which provides structure, and a safe place to make new friends, it can help the kids become more outgoing, and most of all it gives them something to do instead of getting into to trouble.

I'm currently a sophomore at this school and I think its pretty good because they have a great staff and amazing teachers. The food they serve for vegetarians is really good and I am a vegetarian myself. The classes are very big and they have just opened a new section of the school which is absolutely beautiful. The only negative thing is that it can get crowded in the hallways at times.

When we first came to this school one year ago, we didn't know what to expect. Burton was not our first choice, it wasn't even on our list, in fact, we had never heard of the school before. If this sounds like you, then you are the reason I wrote this review. This school is what you make it, and I'm happy to report that one year later this school has become a community, and our son is flourishing! I recommend you Get your child involved. Signing up for one or two after-school programs, or one of the clubs contributes to the quality of your child's overall High School experience. The Principal is always accessible, positive and caring. The students are amazing young people, most of whom are focused and driven. We have a newly formed PTA, principal chats and more. There are plenty of options for parents who want to be involved.

Burton High School not only has the best Principal in San Francisco but also has the best staff. Mr. Kappenhagen loves to interact with all of us students and his door is always open for everyone. He is just amazing. All of the teachers are easy to work with. If you give them your all, they will do the same to you. They are all very nice and will push you to your limit. I highly recommend joining Navy Junior Reserved Officer Training Corps. Master Sergeant is the BEST instructor in SF and we have the best battalion. NJROTC is one hell of an experience. Not to mention we are the only Navy JROTC school in the district, making us stand out to all the other schools. I love the Puma Battalion and Burton High!
