You read the other posts and you read that people love or hate the principal and that make or breaks your experience. He demands the school revolve around him and nobody will dare to stop this.

At the time , we were almost the only non-Asians in the school but we never felt like an outsider. John Yehall Chin felt like family from the very beginning. My children made friends that they still talk to regularly and come to celebrate birthdays and summer parties with us in Marin. The community was warm and welcoming, though I must admit we went all in - we did the afterschool program, Mandarin classes, Chinese dance, etc. Most of all this school was the best preparation for more children - they are in high school but they still have top grades, love math, are persistent, resilient, and aren't daunted by a heavy workload. There are too many schools that give young kids no homework and zero responsibility - I personally think that this is the time they need to learn good habits and establish a good work ethic. Now that my children are in high school, the fact they can do well on their own without tutors and juggle competitive sports, clubs, competitions and more all started with John Yehall Chin. I am so very thankful for this school, it is the best in California as far as I am concerned!

We had a bad experience a few years ago. The intimidation methods used were shocking. We had to get our child out at all cost. SF Unified headquarters didn't seem to care at all, and it is probably because the place has high test scores. The people that are supposed to protect children from bullying are the bullies. If your child might step out of line one time, this isn't the right place.

The Nail that sticks up gets hammered down. My Kindergartener was mistreated and threatened by principal Lee. We have considered pressing charges. The teacher treated him as if he was defective and disobedient because he asked questions. The children took the cue and ostracized him. We moved him out of this abusive environment as quickly as the SFUSD would let us.
