King (Starr) Elementary School

We have had many positive experiences at this school interacting with the - the leadership, the educators, and participating in events with strong the parent community.

Our son is currently in the first grade mandarin immersion program and we can only say good things about it. The teachers are dedicated, passionate and engaged, and the way the school handles behavior issues is in line with our beliefs. The current principal MsMartin is a strong leader who has a vision for the school and is in the process of executing that vision. Overall she appears to have support from teachers and parents.The General Education pathway suffers from social-economic class/race issues that the city of San Francisco overall is grappling with. Resources are fewer in those classrooms, with lower parent participation and a need for better support of struggling students that doesn’t seem to have a clear pathway.

My child attended both the Mandarin Immersion and English programs at Starr King. Both programs were great and the teachers are *excellent.* The principal is a wonderful guiding force at the school. We will send your younger child there when he is old enough.

It's an outstanding learning community with many opportunities for parents to become involved . PTA is strong and works hard to enhance school program.
