Horrible experience for not only my grandchild. But others who were affairs of 8th grade math teacher. Also principal is not able to handle problems with his teachers. To relaxed and care free.

Teachers were always very good at communicating with me as a parent, very involved in helping students early when they struggled and always available for additional help/tutoring. Admin was very involved in all aspects of student programs, both academic and enrichment, they communicate and partner well with parents. I felt my children were in a safe caring environment and they had an exceptional academic experience at SMMS. They have more extra curricular activities than I have seen at other middle schools in the district; an outstanding band program, an award winning art program. Maker Space partnered with the local University, an underwater robotics program sponsored by Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Office of Naval Research. Live broadcasts and research projects in science classes with scientists and engineers from General Atomics, NOAA, Princeton, UCLA, UCI, UCSD and several international institutions. Model UN program and Jr ROTC Airforce. The teachers and admin are amazing and go above and beyond for students.

Not only is the PI school, with unsatisfactory academic scores, but, many of the teachers and administration are very uncaring and unprofessional. The new principal they brought to the school seems great, but she surely has her work cut out for her in order to change the climate that is embedded in this school. There is not very much parental involvement and it seems like the teachers and admin go unchecked more than in other schools. It is really sad when a gang is more supportive and loving than an educator. And, bullying and gangs are a problem at this school. But, it will not turn around and become a better school unless the teachers decide to empower the kids instead of disrespecting them.
