The school parents are awesome and there is a great sense of community but the education is the bottom of the barrell.
Our children have been attending San Martin/Gwinn; specifically the dual immersion program, for the past seven years. We are extremely happy with the education they are receiving in both English and Spanish. Our teachers and staff are dedicated to the success of every student, and go above and beyond to help students achieve their goals. Our children are succeeding and growing both academically and socially. Our parent community is one of a kind, and so supportive of one another. The educational enrichment that is offered is superb, and we couldn’t imagine sending our children anywhere else.
If there was another dual immersion around within reason I would leave this school, as it is I’m considering just sending my kids to El Toro and hiring a Spanish tutor for after school.
This school is turning into escuela. They moved the office for the school address to be on a street with Spanish name. Most of school activities revolve around Hispanic traditions, the food, the celebrations, the Spanish dual immersion program, the flyers sent home including words in Spanish even on the English side of the leaflet... Yes, 70% of students are Hispanic, but the school should be for everybody, not only for them. Why turn it into escuela? Non-Hispanic children feel excluded there.
