Roosevelt is a good neighborhood school with true diversity. Lots of caring teachers, involved parents and engaged students.

Roosevelt is a great school. Benefits of a private school but without the cost

Good is a relative term just like poor and excellent. Principals and teachers come and go. Some are better than others, experience shows us that. A long time principal at this school left a couple years ago. So there is new blood at principal. A fifth grade teacher once told her class that "she didn't want to be there any more than they did". In that case, why is she teaching our children - or anyone for that matter ? Culture is defining. One way a school's culture can be objectively measured is by comparing the effectiveness of its Parent Teacher Organization / Association fundraising results with other nearby schools. While the demographics are similar with other nearby schools, like Peabody and Washington, the fundraising results are dramatically less at Roosevelt. Roosevelt does do better than other schools like Franklin, Cleveland, and Monroe. Compare for yourself in the year you're looking to take objective measure of the school's culture and effectiveness. Choose wisely.

Roosevelt is a good school with real diversity. Many of the teachers are younger, as another reviewer points out, but they are enthusiastic, caring, and use the latest teaching methods. The principal is talented, experienced, knowledgable (Phd), and accessible to everybody -- parents and students alike. Also, there is a very good after school enrichment program with many stimulating and fun options. And of course a majority of parents are involved -- providing whatever additional help or assitance they can.
