I love it and my daughter LOVES this school!!
This is our 4th year at Village - our family has two children attending there. We commute from outside the district boundaries and chose the school for its diversity and good reputation and rigorous academics. We have not been disappointed. The Kindergarten teachers (and assistants) are truly the best, I cannot say enough about them. They set my kids up for success. All three Kindergarten teachers are outstanding: caring, kind, nurturing, knowledgeable, willing to listen to and work with parents and always welcoming of parent volunteers in the classroom. Some of the veteran teachers have retired, but the newer teachers are very capable. Many of the retired veteran teachers sub for the school, so even on sub days you know your kids are in excellent hands.About bullying: it's an issue at every school, the question is how does the school deal with it. My oldest child had issues with bullying two years ago. When I brought this to his teacher's attention, she dealt with it in the very same day (the bully was her former student, so she worked with the student as well as the current teacher) and we've had no more instances since. That is exactly what you want a teacher to do, to nip it in the bud. The principal is willing to listen to parents and try new things. For example you'll find that students walk laps in the morning before instruction. This sure sounds and looks weird at first, but when you realize that this completely cuts down on negative student confrontations, and students still get to socialize, and has many health benefits - it's rather a good plan.Village has an awesome science program from Kindergarten up, and many programs like band, GATE, Odyssey of the Mind, volleyball, etc. There are also many grassroots community events such as Storyteller Night, the Multicultural Festival, Talent Show, Dance Night, and more. Village is a close-knit and caring community and a wonderful school, highly recommended.
My child has been at Village school for 5 years. During this time he has had the best teachers all of whom demonstrate confidence, competence and enthusiasm for teaching. I have been able to develop a good parent-teacher relationship with all of his teachers in order to work together to best support his individual needs. The new principal who stared this school year is very proactive and responsive to issues and problems. She has a zero tolerance to bullying and misbehavior. She means what she says and follows through. It is a very diverse school with opportunities for everyone to participate in something that suits their interests from music and performing to athletics or multi cultural activities and much more. There are lots of opportunities for parents to be involved from volunteering in the classroom to serving on an activity committee. We love Village school!
