As a parent I feel that the services provided at Calle Mayor were unable to meet my son's or my daughter's needs. It seemed they have a one child only rule in special education classes. Rating: 2 (1 being the worst and 10 the best)

I love Calle Mayor Middle School! I have a son and daughter that both went through the school in the last 5 years. The school really fosters community and cares about students. The teachers that I felt had the most impact on my childrens' confidence and success are the Fowlers for 7th and 8th grade PE and Mr. Perez the band director. Mrs. Gehrt really engages the kids in learning and my son excelled in her 8th grade English. Mrs. Gladden utilized great study tools that my daughter says she uses to this day in high school and will continue through college. She gets great grades. I could go on and on. There are only 2 teachers I'd like to see go which is pretty great. I always felt my kids were safe and learned that the administration were really in their corner. I highly recommend Calle.

Calle Mayor is an awesome school! I am an 8th grader and this is my third year at Calle. Mr. Wetzell and Mr. Milligan are my favorite teachers there :) Oh and can't forget about the Fowlers(husband and wife P.E teachers). One thing our school is well known for is our sports. We are the only school in the district with a running club. It is arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Fowler. There is also a volleyball club(Mrs. Fowler) and basketball club(Mr. Fowler). Fitness is very important to them, and in P.E we are always running miles and doing excercises. We basically win all our games against other local schools. In a race(running) against other schools at North High, we won tremendously compared to them and almost every one of our runners got a metal(including me). The education here is great too. I don't think they have it anymore with the new common core thing, but when I was in 7th the classes dissected frogs, squids, sheep eyes, pig hearts, and an earth worm. History is the BEST here I am learning so much. At one point my grade was over 100 in that subject. In Math, we are ahead of other schools because we are required to learn Algebra 1 in 8th as other schools don't learn that until high school. The English teachers here are high school level(Mrs. Cheney), and all our work is done on computers(charts/graphs). The student environment here is very friendly and you make friends all the time. There is no bullying whatsoever. Even so, they still remind students about it in a presentation about once a month. There are so many fun events here to participate in like the run to the beach(running club). The band here is so successful(I'm in it) and we go to Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland to compete and then spend the day there! There are also fall, spring, and winter concerts at the Armstrong theatre. For field trips, the 6th grade goes to the Experium(hands on science center), 7th goes to LACMA(Art museum), and 8th going to a historical monument. The principal (David Mosley) and vice principal(Mr. Ashikawa) are both so responsible and kind. The library/ computer lab is open all day so you can check out books or even play computer games. There is a beach/hilly feel to Calle as well. For running the mile in P.E, you walk over to the South high track. 8th graders also go there for AP classes and language as enrichment. Overall this is the best middle school around!

So many bad things about this school where can I began? The teachers they hire are terrible(in fact 1 was arrested) and they honestly do not care. Teachers don't care about their students, the school is a mess, lunches have been the same for how many years? . Don't waste your time with this school
