My daughter has really loved her experience at El Camino. She really enjoys the community of students and staff, plus the opportunities she’s received to go at her own pace in school. There was a previous review where a student complained about the counselors. That has not been our experience. The counselors have been very caring and professional. They helped us navigate the college class selection at Ventura College each semester. They helped my daughter create a 4 year plan for high school which includes her completing a large number of transferable college classes. But with that said, El Camino is not a perfect fit for every student. For the student who is looking for an early college high school program that is both individualized and rigorous, it’s an amazing opportunity.
I have loved attending El Camino High School for the past three and half years (I am in the first half of my senior year). The teachers care about each and every student they have in their class. The unique environment allows students who need to learn at their own pace to have a comfortable and supportive school structure. The environment also allows students who would like to learn at a faster pace to do so. This school is a great option for students looking for an alternative to the average public school.
The counselors are completely unorganized and you need to do a lot of reearch before going to this school. Trust me they will find a way to sabatoge your college experience. They are so not in sync with ventura college it amazes me to the point that i left the school. Keep this in mind if your every sending your poor child there because you need to have hours of research under your belt before sending them off. The school will not help you.
If you are looking at this school because your child has a learning disability or is struggling in school, do not even go to an informational session (because they have a great program and you will want your kid to go there). We did, my daughter was accepted on a provisional basis and was threatened to be kicked more than once for getting lower than a B. We transferred her after two months and have found a program that is much more supportive. Save your child and you the stress and heartache.
