When my son started there TK in 2013 I was happy with his progress and learning. He was very attentive and really liked school. I really could tell was excited to learn and was interested. His teacher then was Ms De Ruiz and she is phenomal. She is a blessing. Nevada was great then. Now that my child is or was in kinder I have many doubt about this school. The school rating has gone down. Math and English literacy is ridiculous! The office personnel are RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. His current teacher doesn't give my child the time of the day. I once gave her a note to school saying he will be gone for a lengthy amount of time due to a family emergency (mind you not we spoke in person a month before this letter) And to prepare any necessary work he will be missing. 3 days later I asked her if she received the note and she said "what note? Is it the one in a white envelope that your son gave me? It's been sitting on my desk" I was in complete shock. What if it was a note saying "this is to inform you to please update my childs allergy list". The stories goes on and on since I volunteered at that school from time to time. I really do hope that this changes for the better for the children and our future's sake. Change needs to first start from the top (meaning the principal). Right now I don't see her modeling the way.
Our neighborhood school is a fabulous place to learn and grow! Wonderful, caring and creative teachers and staff, who ready care about the children and their educational needs! I would rate this school a 10!!!
This school was identified as my sons summer school location. I registered him nearly 3 weeks before summer school began and never received any communication. I even called the school to get info and nobody could tell me anything (including heat hours and what days!) We arrived the first day of school only to find out out that 5 different incompetent teachers couldn't tell me anything other than to go to the office. After waiting in a long line, I was told the secretary didn't have time to out him in the computer from when I registered him and handed a scratch piece of paper with a teacher and room number and a note to accept my son. The teacher had no info on my son so I wrote down an emergency contact in the room for him! At the conclusion of his 2 hour class, he would have walked right out the gate if I had not been standing there! Nobody was watching for him! Today was no better- the reacher didn't have a key to unlock the gate! What if there was an emergency requiring them to exit quickly! All she said was "this isn't my home school".... Well that's no excuse!, Shame on you LAUSD
My husband nieces went to this school and they said it was a really nice school teacher and staff. After reading the reviews of the school I decided to put them there. My alder son started first 1st grade and he is now going to do his culmination this year going in to Jr. High school. Now I have my little one going in to 1st grade n I'm very proud to said that they are a very nice and educated and they teach and show students how to respect and move on to jr high. My alder son is sad to leave Nevada elementary school. If you are looking for a good school this is the one you'll not regret on enrolling your child in that school.
