I have two boys at the school, they both love the school, their teachers and their experience in the STEAM magnet!

We rated the school and its teachers neutral because while the school does have its share of very good teachers in programs such as AP French, and its share of teachers that confound students as to grading policy and implementation, our experience in the music program is that there is much to be improved in terms of setting clear guidelines about promoting students to leadership positions. Teachers in the core academic classes by and large post clear criteria and guidelines for grading, typically at the beginning of the semester during back to school night. The music program, however, has rather ambiguous guidelines towards promoting students to leadership position that are opaque at best. Students should not be led to understand one criteria during their time in band while having another criteria used when they are up for leadership promotion. If a student has been involved as a freshman and has taken leadership roles within band, such as winning community awards or taking on additional responsibilities, e.g. equipment set up and take down, and that is the criteria for promotion to leadership position that the students are led to understand, then the criteria should not be changed at the last minute. Even if that criteria needed to be changed, any new criteria should be applied to those students who are new to the program so as to set the expectations and avoid misunderstanding. New parents and students are strongly advised to insist on what the expectations are, and what the guidelines are lest, like us, they be left with disappointment and an all-around negative experience that overshadows what otherwise is a very positive school environment under the current administration.

AMAZING SCHOOL !! The teachers actually care about the students more than any other school does. I switched from a small school and I'm actually really happy I did so !
