awful, miserable, the pinnacle of mediocrity, no leadership

Woodside has a very nice campus and some great teachers. However, I wish it can offer more honor and advance classes so students can have choices between AP and regular level classes. I also wish AP physic 1 & 2 are offered.I wish some teachers could demonstrate genuine compassion and wisely bring out kindness in students instead of “talking” about shallow tolerance. It’s not a bad school, but there’s a lot of room to improve.

We started as an enthused new WHS family and are finishing up as an exhausted and regretful WHS family. Our student would have been much better off at Menlo Atherton High School. There is not enough variety in courses offered at this school, classes are tracked into AP and lower level courses w/o anything in between, many of the teachers our child had were brand new out of college and some of them were quite terrible. There were a few bright spots along the way - our college counselor, school counselor, one English teacher, one Spanish teacher who left in frustration, and on biology teacher. The rest were mediocre at best. The senior thesis is a highly structured time sink and a somewhat pointless project. It could have been designed in a much more effective way. There is no leadership at this school. Any concerns we've had along the way have been breezily brushed off by administration. The principal is great at recruiting new families into the school but doesn't care much about the students once they are there. I've also heard from parents who have minority children at this school that there are racial discrimination problems in terms of placing children from particular ethnicities in lower level classes routinely. Over all, this has been a very shallow high school experience and we regret having made the choice to send our child to WHS.

WHS has been a tremendous experience for our child. Superb, dedicated high-intellect teachers. A thoughtful curriculum. A caring administration. Just so pleased with it all.
