To the commenter on 6/23/10: You said: "The superindendent makes decisions the school board should because that is the way it has always been done and the community supports that." You are apparently misinformed about how schools are supposed to operate. The superintendents and principals are the educated ones, not the school board. The superintendents and principals are the ones qualified to make decisions in the best interest of what's educationally sound and appropriate for students. Not the school board. School boards, if they are functioning correctly and abide within their parameters, should be taking the advice, suggestions and recommendation of the superintendents. To not do so is called micromanaging.

I am currently a teacher in the Aguilar Secondary program and I have had 3 of my children there, with a 4th getting ready to enter the pre-school program. The Elementary staff are a wonderful group of women who, despite pay issues, school board issues, and high turnover of administration personal, have dedicated themselves to the students and their learning. They are all Highly Qualified and currently working with CDE and a special grant to improve the entire school over the next 3 years. I encourage every potential parent to come and check out the school for yourselves. I think you will be excited about the positive changes that are taking place due to the dedication and extra time and effort that all are putting into making things better for the students and the entire community. Come join in the improvement process!

My family has lived in Aguilar for decades all attending Aguilar schools and recently a niece& nephew graduated from there. Two family members have worked there in recent years in non teaching positions. The school continues to have CSAP problems has been on a state academic watch program for several years. There is no discipline , the administration is not actively monitoring students but sitting in their offices. The superindendent makes decisions the school board should because that is the way it has always been done and the community supports that. The parents and people in that community are not actively involved in learning process or discipline . I will not allow my kids to go to school there.
