My son has been at the Lab School for two years and is thriving! A couple other reviewers mentioned bullying, and I wanted to share our experience. Our son was being bullied by an older student last year and the school was wonderfully responsive. My son's teacher, the assistant principal and the principal all got involved and developed a compassionate, respectful and firm plan that involved both our son and the student committing the bullying. We haven't had any trouble since. Bullying happens in every school and, we are so pleased with the way the school handled this situation! My son is performing at above grade level in math and reading and loves going to school. The school fosters a love of learning, individuality and creativity in all of its students. This is the Lab School's top strength. We love it!

Specials were added to the school in 2011. We now have very talented PE, Music, and Technology teachers! Although there is still no official art teacher, art is incorportated into many of the lessons and expeditions. I am happy to say that there is one expedition per semester where the kids really delve into a subject. They get out of the classroom a lot which my child finds particulary exciting. And there is plenty of opportunity to move and be a kid. Play is a very important part of learning in elementary school and the Lab School knows this and fosters this. We are so happy with the Lab School, and, more importantly, our child is happy!

Boy I really wish June '13 would have posted that a year earlier. I transferred my child here Aug '12 through School of Choice and quickly learned what a mistake that was. The teacher was fine but from the first week an older student kept hitting, kicking, pushing my child within the classroom. The response was always 'a safety plan is in place' regarding the other child who we suspected was special needs. The principal was dismissive, rude, and generally reinforced the 'do nothing principal' stereotype. I even called the School Support Personnel who told me a Safety Plan should have been made for my child too !

3 years later they have a bully problem at this school. If your kid defends himself, he will be suspended. Even if he's been harassed and assaulted repeatedly. Ponytail isn't nearly as cool as he looks. Great disappointment.
