Just visiting this website to check on the status of the middle school my 3 kids went through over a 6 year period ending last year. Based on its current rating and comments I am not surprised that things have not changed. I have 2 new colleagues moving soon into the north metro area that are asking me about this school and the Adams12 district. I will not recommend this school at all, but we have been happy with our kids successes at Horizon High School in spite of having to attend and deal with the low expectations at Shadow Ridge. At the high school level there are lots of AP classes available and thankfully it seems that the bad kids from middle school either wised up or dropped out. We are lucky that our kids are pretty much self driven, so they managed okay dealing with the handful of lousy teachers and overall low behavior standards from the general student population. Was not impressed with the administration staff across the board especially the assistant principals. They need to spend more time in classrooms helping with student behavior instead of just being playground and lunch room monitors. Music, art, and drama programs a big plus.

I would have to agree with many of the negative comments here. I would give minus 5 stars if I could. Not at all happy with what our 6th grader has experienced so far this school year. We saw the school regress when our two oldest kids went through a few years ago. Luckily both were good students and could work around distractions of other students and choiced into Legacy's L2K program. Have not experienced any positive changes and and are worried about our 5th grader so we also decided to move - into the Westlake area. That way both of the younger ones can also go to Legacy. Thankfully we have Kahn Academy to augment their instruction at home. Some of the teachers are good, but most struggle with managing the classroom and the behavior problems of the 1 to 5 kids every class that ruin it for the others that want to learn. The school needs to do a better job with that, but my kids have not seen any changes. We will not wait for our 5th grader to have to experience the same. Our 4 kids have made us experts at school behavior and this school needs to reboot behavior expectations. Otherwise, do your homework and find another school district.

Not good. No discipline in the classrooms. Kids smart off to teachers all the time and call them names behind their backs. Kids get sent to office with no consequences. Kids that create disruptions and don't work in class are not held accountable. Kids that go here are the worst. The teachers are okay and try, but I will not let my kid attend 8th grade there because of the students. Moving out of the school area this spring into Rocky Top / Legacy HS area. Thank God there are other options.

Overall, you will have your best Shadow Ridge Middle School experience in 8th grade. 7th a lot of teacher are strict but some of those are cool teachers as long as you're on there good side. And 6th grade since some teacher change I really don't know but I do know most of the teacher that was bad are still there. So I guess all I could suggest is... come back during 8th grade since the teacher for 8th grade are really awesome.
